Summary

The Sleep Apnea Global Interdisciplinary Consortium is a self-funded consortium of sleep centers worldwide that seeks to improve both diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for individuals with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The consortium has published many manuscripts together and is taking the lead in bringing the concept of symptom subtypes of OSA into routine clinical practice.

One of the strategic goals of the consortium is to develop early-stage investigators worldwide by providing data they can use, mentorship (both local and remote), and networking opportunities.

This symposium features only early-stage investigators as presenters. The speakers come from China, Germany, Australia, and the United States, showcasing the global reach of this effort.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this CME activity, participants will be able to:
• Recognize the role of fat deposits in the tongue in the pathogenesis of OSA
• Be aware if different risk factors for OSA in Asians compared to Caucasians
• Define the value of well collected observational data
• Differentiate different types of arousal and understand their clinical relevance
