Summary
Cannabinoids derived from the cannabis plant (or synthetic mimics) are being increasingly utilised to treat a plethora of health conditions including sleep disorders. However, the rapid growth in their use has preceded empirical evidence for their benefit. Among other factors, regional differences in access and legislation around cannabis use creates challenges for gathering robust evidence around its benefit, or harms.
This discussion session will begin with a brief introduction to cannabinoids as potential therapeutics and provide an overview of global medicinal cannabis prescription, access, use and regulations. There will also be a brief overview of existing evidence for cannabinoid use in various sleep disorders.
