World Sleep Society presents a one-hour educational introduction to women's sleep health on September 23, 2026. This live event is free to all attendees, and the recording will be made available in the Learning Center. 

Join the live session to participate in the question-and-answer portion with our expert panel moderated by Dr. Naricha Chirakalwasan (Thailand). 


The session will include two presentations: 

  •  Introduction to women's sleep health from Fauziya Hassan, MBBS, MS (United States)
  • Care gaps across genders from Dayna Johnson, PhD, MPH, MSW, MS (United States)

Time for Q&A will follow.

  •  Identify disparities and care gaps that contribute to under recognition of sleep disorders in women
  • Recognize how sleep in women differs from men, at all stages of life
  • Recognize the impact of hormonal changes (menarche, pregnancy, menopause) on sleep health

Dr. Naricha Chirakalwasan is a quadruple American Boards certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Sleep Medicine. She is a Professor of Medicine at Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care medicine, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. 

She also holds the position of Associate Dean of International Affairs, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, Head for Respiratory Neurobiology and Sleep Assembly of Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (APSR), Head for Junior chamber committee of Asian Society of Sleep Medicine, Secretary-General of Federation of South East Asia Sleep Medicine (FSSM), and current President of Sleep Society of Thailand. 

Dr. Naricha Chirakalwasan published extensively in original articles and international textbooks with H-index of 23 https://scholar.google.com/cit...

She also holds a position of an Associate Editor for Respirology Journal. She received several awards including "Outstanding Young Physician" award in 2021 from the Royal College of Physicians of Thailand. Her research interests are obstructive sleep apnea, NIV, insomnia, sleep health, and asthma. 

Fauziya Hassan, MBBS, MS

Fauziya Hassan, MBBS, MS is a clinical professor at the U-M Medical School Department of Pediatrics Division of Pediatric Pulmonology. Dr. Hassan has board certifications in Sleep Medicine and Pediatric Pulmonology. She has clinical interests in Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine, including sleep apnea and hypoventilation in children and non-invasive ventilation in children. She is also interested in sleep disorders in children with chronic diseases such as asthma and cystic fibrosis along with the relationship between obesity and sleep. 

Dayna Johnson, PhD, MPH, MSW, MS

Dayna Johnson, PhD, MPH, MSW, MS

Dayna Johnson, PhD is an associate professor in the Department of Epidemiology at Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. She earned her Master of Science and PhD in Epidemiologic Science and her Master of Public Health and Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan. Dr. Johnson completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Sleep and Circadian Disorders. Her research focused on understanding the social determinants of sleep health disparities and their implications for adverse health outcomes. She also focuses on the underlying social and environmental factors contributing to sleep disorders and insufficient sleep among different population, with an emphasis on African American communities.
