Course Summary:
This workshop aims to provide healthcare professionals with an in-depth understanding of COMISA, a condition characterized by the co-occurrence of insomnia and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The workshop will cover four key areas: The first presentation will explore the prevalence, risk factors, and public health implications of COMISA, highlighting the importance of screening for and diagnosing COMISA in clinical practice and its impact on patient outcomes.
The next session will focus on the diagnostic tools and methods that can be used to measure and diagnose COMISA, and predict treatment response. Participants will learn about the latest advancements in sleep medicine and how to apply these techniques in their practice.
The second part of the workshop will provide insights into evidence-based strategies for managing insomnia and OSA in patients with COMISA. This includes both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, developing comprehensive treatment plans and the impact on patient outcomes.
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
· Describe the prevalence of COMISA in different settings, and the mental and physical health consequences associated with untreated COMISA.
· Identify and apply various diagnostic tools (self-reported and objective) as well as recognizing various phenotypes of the disorder.
· Assess evidence-based strategies and interventions for effectively managing and treating insomnia in patients with COMISA.
· Develop and implement treatment plans for OSA in patients with COMISA, integrating both pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches.
